Increase Participation and Fun in Your Golf League

GolfTripGenius.com

Are you looking to increase participation in your golf league? Golf leagues incorporate a number of different tournament formats, that’s why they’re so much fun. While it’s always nice to win the weekly skins and make your wallet a little fatter, the heart-pounding pressure while standing over a 5-foot putt on the last hole to secure the win for your team is incomparable. Okay, maybe if it’s to win the Masters...but we’ll stick to league play.

Top #ThatsGenius Moments of the 2013 Masters

Adam Scott Wins Masters

“From down under to on top of the world.” The simple yet eloquent words that Ian Baker-Finch used to describe Adam Scott’s victory at the 77th Masters Tournament. A fellow Aussie and winner of the 1991 Open Championship, Baker-Finch’s tone alluded to how big of a win this was. Not just for Scott, who held the lead for 69 holes at last year’s Open Championship, but for an entire continent that’s waited ever so patiently for its first Masters champion.

Five Things You Need to Avoid When Attending Golf's Finest Major
  • Where to stay: You might be “lucky” enough to still find a local hotel room that charges $59/night for 300 days a year of lodging that suddenly costs $259/night for the tournament in April. Don’t make that reservation. A $59 hotel room is, ah, rustic. Sure, you could bring your own sheets and towels and wear flip-flops even to bed, but a much better idea is to stay 1.5 hours away in Columbia, SC in a nice Marriott or Hilton for $125. Expensive yes, disgusting, no. Take a leisurely drive down to the tournament with a stop at a Waffle House for fuel.

As any golf league organizer knows, the job is tiring and thankless. From setting up weekly tournaments and pairings, to calculating stats and payouts down to the very last skin.

Scratch One off the Golf Bucket List

Harbour Town buddy golf trip

Note: This is the first in a series of posts that GolfTripGenius.com trip Captain Steve Hatley will be writing leading up to the ultimate bucket list golf trip to Scotland in September.

It’s late summer, 2012, and the annual fall boys golf trip loomed—the 17th annual edition of the Spaulding Smail’s Invitational (of course, I use the term “boys” loosely as the average age of the twelve regulars is in the mid-forties, but for four or five days, we are boys again). This year’s edition takes us to Austin, Texas, for the first time.
